The event is a part of Transatlantic Science Week at University of California Berkeley and Stanford University. The goal of the conference is to increase transatlantic cooperation in research, innovation and higher education.

NASA Ames Research Park has since its establishment in 1939 been an important building block for the development of research in Silicon Valley with more than 2,500 scientists and more than 800 million dollars in revenue. Together with Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley, they have created; Disaster Management initiative (DMI) to develop new technologies and processes for social safety and emergency preparedness.
